Created in 2008, this club went through many changes and modifications over the years. But overall, it is a club that promotes weightlifting and the many sports associated with it (Powerlifting, BodyBuilding, and Strongman). The club acts as a resource for people interested in the sports, or who just want to improve their fitness through weightlifting. The club puts on two official events each year. The Powerlifting competition occurs in the middle of Fall quarter, and usually has a very large turnout and good fun! The Strongman competition happen every Spring quarter outside the WWU Wade King Recreational Center.

History[]

A WWU student named Stephanie Singer started the club out in 2008, first geared towards Bodybuilding only. She and a few friends would lift together while a handful would compete in various weightlifting sports (Bodybuilding and Powerlifting). Stephanie was a really passionate woman who competed in Bodybuilding and geared her efforts into recruiting male and female members. When Chris Lee heard of the club, he added the Strongman aspect by hosting Saturday morning practices with Strongman equipment he owned. Stephanie gave him power over the club when she graduated. Chris then took the club and focused it on Strongman, and ended up renaming the club the WWU Strongman Club and started hosting the Strongman Competitions. It wasn't until club members piqued an interest in Powerlifting, that the Fall competitions were added. After Chris Lee graduated, Conrad Larsen took power of the club for a year, still running the Strongman Club's (Powerlifting Competition and Strongman Competition). It was when Conrad graduated that the club underwent a falling out and foundation reconstuction. Sarah Moorman, a member from Stephanie Singer's 'era', stepped up and took control of the club when there was no clear club President. She worked to reconstruct the club starting at the very base level: being registered with the AS. It turned out the club's paperwork was severely outdated, along with the absence of documents required by the AS. Unfortunately, this was met with some negative reactions from one member that rallied to split Strongman from the club. Sarah pushed forward and made a quick exit by holding club elections and getting new club officers to officially run the club.

Through the club elections, Bryan Cavanagh was elected President along with four club Vice Presidents. The VP's were made in charge of each weightlifting sport and the respected events (VP of Bodybuilding, VP of Powerlifting, VP of Strongman, and VP of Women Lifters). The VP of Women Lifters was agreed to be added in order to keep pursuing female involvement in weightlifting.
